WEEK 20 – THE 52 WEEK LOVE PROJECT

Welcome to Week 20 of The 52 Week Love Project – Acts of Kindness. The project designed to recognize 52 inspiring humans who are giving back to our community – whether in a small way or by creating a movement for change and inspiration.

The project will showcase LOVE at it’s finest, share their stories – what they do and why they do it!  It’s an opportunity for us to find out what inspires them and what keeps them going when challenges or self-doubt assail them.

Meet Thaddeus Lawrence, The Founder of Runaway Success Learning.

When asked how he gets past self-doubt, this is what he said:

“I embrace it. I recognise that it is part of my human condition. Then I help someone else and take action toward my own goals. Focusing on others takes away my self-importance and focuses on what matters.

And if I have time to feel doubt about myself, I have time to do something. So I do something.”

WHERE DID IT ALL BEGIN?

It all began after I ran my first 250 kilometre ultra-endurance race in the Sahara desert. Actually, it began before that. It is common to be inspired by someone’s accomplishments and achievements, that is, after the deed or event. But as I told my story of committing to the race and how I had set my heart and mind to taking on something that would push my limits and stretch me out of my comfort zone, I noticed how others were galvanised and moved toward doing something about their own lives. Somehow that courage to act in the presence of fear, regardless of outcome or result, was soul inspiring and inspiriting in itself. And that was a theme that would repeat itself with a multitude of audiences.

WHAT DO YOU DO?

My mission is to move, educate and inspire people to become better versions of ourselves and prosper in a life of presence, possibility and purpose. The people who come to me are those who want me to help them transform their lives and pursue their passions with fulfilment; live with meaning and make the money that they desire (and deserve) and create success in their chosen careers or businesses.

To hear people whom I have worked with come back and tell me stories of how they’ve gone on to make that big career change that they’d been resisting for years; make a lot more money than they thought possible; create breakthroughs in their most cherished relationships; see a massive turnaround in their health; and feel more vibrant, alive and energised than they’ve ever been; is the most gratifying part of what I do and is what keeps me through the difficult moments.

WHAT INSPIRED YOU?

I was leading an outdoor adventure camp for a group of youths-at-risk. They came from dysfunctional families, had run-ins with the police and struggled in the school system. At the end of the week-long camp I gathered the teenagers in the hall to reflect on their one significant moment at camp. The answer from one boy floored me. In one sentence he wrote in his journal, “the bald guy said I’m a good guy.” All throughout camp he was constantly reprimanded, scolded and told off for stepping out of line and misbehaving. On one such occasion I watched from afar and sought to understand why he behaved the way he did. Then I went over to him, looked in his bright eyes and told him I believed that beneath that exterior he was genuinely a good boy. Those few indelible seconds for him proved that we cannot not impact or influence someone, whether we knew it or not.

Not long after, I took my passion to develop young people to create a platform and business around adult education. If we as adults would get our lives in order and be the best version of ourselves, then we would parent, teach and lead accordingly. That’s how we change the world. I’ve been doing that for the last 12 years now.

HOW DO YOU GET PAST SELF DOUBT?

I embrace it. I recognise that it is part of my human condition. Then I help someone else and take action toward my own goals. Focusing on others takes away my self-importance and focuses on what matters. And if I have time to feel doubt about myself, I have time to do something. So I do something.

WHAT ADVICE DO YOU HAVE FOR OTHERS WHO WANT TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE/CHANGE IN THE WORLD?

First of all, you have to be willing to be a student and learn how you can change and be a better you. I have no right to be in the business of self-development if I do not develop myself. Similarly who are you to change the world if you remain the same? If you can’t make a difference to your own life, how useful are you to making a difference in the world?

Then just get on with it. The work of life is in the living. Too many people are great at theorising, philosophising, analysing, planning, “getting ready.” There is no time better than now. Be who you need to be, do what the world requires of you and have your vision come alive.

DO YOU HAVE A QUOTE OR EXPRESSION THAT YOU LIVE BY?

To get to the finish line, you have to get to the start line. Whatever you dream of being, doing and having, start now.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU DO?

I run a program called Summits of Your Life which brings families, couples and teams together for a once-in-a-lifetime, unique experience in some of the most stunning locations on earth. Using nature as a classroom, mountains as a teacher and a human development coach, they will:

  • Form the deeper connections that come when family members spend time and undergo challenges together
  • Discover strengths in each other that they never knew existed
  • Experience precious moments together and create long lasting memories in the peace and beauty of nature
  • Stretch their mental, physical, emotional boundaries and discover the power of the human spirit
  • Go from practical strangers living the same house to having a lasting bond
  • Be the role model that their child needs
  • Experience true family bonding, something that gets lost in the busyness of daily living

HOW CAN OTHERS HELP/GET INVOLVED?

If you consider yourself an adventurous sort who plans on having this next year of your life be truly memorable and outstanding email me at info@therunawaysuccess.com and follow me on facebook: here

When i askeThaddeus if there was a paritcular charity or cause that others could  contribute to, he suggested ‘give time’.  Give money also if you can, however it’s the human touch that resonates and the connection that people need.
